Antique New York Hotel Metropole Silverplate Tray

Antique New York Hotel Metropole Silverplate Tray

$350.00

The Hotel Metropole, located near Times Square, was one of New York's original grand hotels. It opened its doors in 1889 as a complete interior renovation of the former Rossmore Hotel, and was originally famed for being the first hotel in New York City with running water in all of its rooms. This decadent bronze and gold hotel would later become infamous in 1912 for the sordid murder of gambling den owner Herman Rosenthal, supposedly at the behest of New York police detective Charles Becker, who was later convicted of the crime and executed in 1915.

For the lovers of history, fine silver, and the macabre alike, we are pleased to bring this gorgeous antique silverplate tray, dating back to the very year the Hotel Metropole first opened! A rare historical treasure, this gleaming silver plate tray is embossed with the Hotel Metropole crest and rimmed with a beautiful and ornate scallop and scroll pattern border.

Not just a stunning presentation piece, this (perhaps haunted!) elegant tray is sure to be a fabulous conversation starter at your next gathering!

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good restored antique condition. 14" L. 11" W.
