Discovered at market and created by the renowned German firm Erhard & Söhne around the turn of the 20th century, this captivating Antique Brass Box draws its inspiration from the grandeur of the ancient world. In a period during which fascination with the civilizations of Greece and Rome was at a peak, classical motifs such as triumphal chariots, mythological figures, and imperial processions appeared throughout architecture and the decorative arts.

Richly cast, the box is decorated with lively chariot scenes in which spirited horses surge forward beneath the command of armored charioteers, their shields and wheels rendered in remarkable detail. Founded in Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1844, Erhard & Söhne (Erhard & Sons) became one of Germany's most celebrated producers of decorative metalwork, earning an international reputation for finely crafted boxes, caskets, jewelry cabinets, and objets d'art. Highly desirable among collectors today, the firm's output is notable for many things including holding the first world patent for brass inlay, which occurred in 1904.
