The Belle Epoque, or "Beautiful Age," refers to a time period in France spanning from the beginning of the Third French Republic until the first World War. It was a time of peace, prosperity, innovation, and luxury across the country, especially in Paris. It was during this romantic and prosperous period that the Eiffel Tower, the Paris Metro, the Paris Opera, and the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur on Montmartre were built, surging France forward into the modern age and the approaching 20th century.

As couture fashion houses, department stores, and tourism boomed alongside innovations in technology, art, and architecture, the demand for luxury products in the City of Lights grew among the wealthy and middle class alike.

Pieces such as this sweet and ornate beveled glass double  frame were common of the time period, with certain attention paid to lavish detail, such as the elaborate brass finial bows and and the decorative center flower holder. We were delighted to discover this treasure in a flea market outside of Paris, as it called to mind the romance and refinement of the age. Delicate, stylish, and distinctly French, we think this frame is the perfect home for your most cherished photos and mementos.

In good antique condition. One-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. Individual Frames measure 4" x 2 5/8". The double frame overall measures 6 7/8" wide x 5 3/8" high including bow finial and ball feet.
