Price: $295.00

As tea drinking became an essential ritual of daily life in 19th-century Britain, the biscuit barrel emerged as a fashionable companion upon the tea table. Designed to protect biscuits and sweet treats while presenting them with elegance and refinement, these charming vessels became beloved fixtures of Victorian entertaining.

Found at market in northern England, this delightful Antique Silverplate & Porcelain Demi Biscuit Barrel, produced by Royal Doulton, enchants with both its petite scale and exquisite decoration. Wonderfully diminutive and perfectly suited for tea for two, the porcelain body is adorned with delicate blue floral sprays against a soft white ground, framed by rich cobalt-blue panels embellished with intricate gilt foliage and tiny golden accents.

Complementing the charming floral vignettes, the gleaming silverplate mount and graceful swing handle lend structure and refinement to the piece. The engraved lid, embellished with delicate leafy motifs, is crowned by a handsome finial and opens to reveal a lovely vessel perfectly sized for biscuits, sweets, sugar cubes or other treasured morsels beside the teapot.

Sparkling softly beneath the light, this enchanting biscuit barrel brings with it all the romance and conviviality of a bygone tea service. Equally lovely displayed upon a tea tray, sideboard or breakfast table, it is certain to become a much-admired addition to any collection.
