Found at market in northern England, we are delighted to offer this lovely Antique Porcelain Sardine Dish. Sardines became a popular food item during the late 19th century, often served with a soup course or as a complement to family tea time. Serving sardines from a tin would have been considered a breach of etiquette and special serving dishes would draw keen attention to the fact that this Victorian delicacy was being served and reflect well on a family's social status.

Expertly made from fine porcelain and trimmed with gleaming gold, this charming sardine dish is topped with a well-painted sardine as its handle. The sardine's darker palette is in striking contrast to the dish's fine, bright white porcelain.
