Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. Circa 1940. In very good vintage condition with discreet signs of age and use, the worst of which is crazing as shown in the alternate images. 4" x 5.5".

Learn More About Ind Coope & Co. Ltd.

The long history of Ind Coope & Co. brewery began in 1708 at The Star Inn just outside of London in the town of Romford. As was customary at the time, the owner of the inn was brewing beer for his guests and before long word spread about the great-tasting beer at The Star Inn.

In 1799, the Inn with its popular beer recipe was sold to a Mr. Edward Ind and a brew house was built on the site. Ind went into partnership with brothers Octavius and George Coope in 1845, and by 1856 they were known as Ind Coope and Company.

Through the end of the 1800s, Ind Coope took over a number of smaller breweries around the country, but by January of 1909, fell on hard times and almost went out of business. The company was reorganized and registered in 1912 as Ind Coope and Company Limited and continued to expand.

After acquiring the Samuel Allsopp and Sons brewery in 1934, the company became known as Ind Coope and Allsopp Limited.

By 1961 Ind Coope Limited merged with several other breweries to form the Allied Breweries Limited.
