Antique Handpainted Royal Worcester Cabinet Plate

Antique Handpainted Royal Worcester Cabinet Plate

$78.00

Found at market, this exquisite artist-signed cabinet plate was produced by England's celebrated Royal Worcester factory and bears date marks for 1926. Richly hand painted and lavishly hand gilded, the elegant plate is centered by a vibrant floral bouquet painted by Royal Worcester artist J. Stanley, whose finely executed botanical compositions remain especially admired by collectors today.

Encircling the floral vignette is an opulent border of intricate raised gilding set against a rich green ground, creating a striking contrast with the luminous ivory porcelain beneath. During Royal Worcester's golden age, such richly decorated wares represented the pinnacle of English porcelain artistry. The elaborate gilding and hand-painted decoration required multiple firings, with each stage demanding exceptional precision, making every completed plate a remarkable feat of craftsmanship. These luxurious productions were sold through prestigious retailers including Tiffany & Co., Prouds Ltd., and the Flavelle Brothers of Sydney.

The floral medallion is signed by J. Stanley, who trained under Royal Worcester's celebrated floral painter Ernest Phillips before becoming one of the factory's accomplished artists in his own right. Working at Worcester during the 1920s and early 1930s, Stanley became known for his beautifully rendered floral studies, characterized by luminous color, delicate shading, and exceptional botanical detail.

Created during the exuberance of the Roaring Twenties, this elegant cabinet plate remains every bit as captivating today as when it first emerged from the Worcester kilns nearly a century ago. Whether displayed on its own or as part of a collection, it is an enduring work of art that celebrates one of England's finest porcelain traditions.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. At time of listing seven plates available. In very good antique condition. Circa 1926. 8 1/8" in diameter. Handwash only.

Learn More About Royal Worcester

Royal Worcester, one of England's oldest porcelain manufacturers, was founded in 1751 by Dr. John Wall and William Davis. Established to rival the finest imported Chinese porcelains then prized throughout Europe, the company quickly earned a reputation for exceptional quality and artistry. In 1788, the factory received a royal warrant from King George III, allowing it to use the name "Royal Worcester," further solidifying its reputation for excellence.

Throughout the 19th century, Royal Worcester continued to innovate, pioneering new decorative techniques and expanding its range of beautifully designed wares, influenced by artistic movements from Rococo revival to Art Nouveau. In 1976, the company merged with Spode to form Royal Worcester Spode, navigating changing markets while maintaining its commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Today, Royal Worcester is celebrated for its rich heritage and timeless designs, with its porcelain remaining among the most admired and collectible in the world.
