We were delighted by this handsome Antique French Tabac Canister made by the esteemed potters at Sarreguemines in imitation of beloved English Wedgwood jasperware.
Like its English counterpart, Sarreguemines jasperware was produced in dense, unglazed stoneware and decorated with finely molded cameo-style reliefs. Often distinguished by its own unique color palette and interpretation of classical and sporting motifs, Sarreguemines jasperware appeared in a variety of decorative and functional forms, including tobacco canisters such as this example. This particular piece features two finely detailed hunting scenes, one depicting a deer and the other a boar.
Whether employed as a handsome storage vessel or displayed as a striking decorative accent, this charming canister is certain to become a treasured addition to your bar, library, or den.
