With its luscious hand-painted detail and jewel-toned palette of goldenrod and aubergine highlighted by chartreuse and ecru, this elegant Antique French Majolica Jardinère promises to delight for years to come. Spied at market last month, we were taken by the sweet Art Nouveau depiction of sprightly iris flowers emerging from their winter rest.
Executed in fine French majolica, this graceful jardinère with its whimsical, earthy aesthetic was executed by the famed potters at St. Clément. Stamped on the underside with the factory's early 20th century mark, the potter was founded in 1758 in the village of the same name, located in the Lorraine region of northeast France. Producing classic French faïence, it is most recognized today for ts novel and whimsical depictions of natural motifs. Entirely hand-decorated with the rich glazes that have made Saint Clément so beloved, the planter is sure to make an unforgettable impression in inimitable French style.
