Case in point is this delightful Vintage Allumettes (Matches) Box found in a market outside of Paris, designed to be hung near the stove so a busy cook always had a match close at hand to light the stove. This quaint and lovely container was fashioned from sturdy enamelware and decorated in an oh-so-very-French shade of bleu royal with the word Allumettes, (the French word for matches), dressing the front of the box. A textured strip on the top of the lid allows a strike-anywhere match to be lit with ease.
