$595.00
Handsome and historic, we are so pleased to present this Vintage Silverplate Loving Cup Football Trophy from England. An impressive memento, indeed, commemorating a winning season for the local Skipton Bulldogs, a youth team competing in the regional Barnoldswick, Farby & District Sunday School League.
Sure to have held pride of place in the home for generations, this stately loving cup trophy features two hand-engraved inscriptions.
The history of loving cups is one that is rich in tradition: with origins as early as 1811, loving cups were customarily given for special accomplishments, as varied as weddings or athletic achievements. In the cup's tradition, when presented to two people, each person held one of the two handles and drank from the loving cup in a symbolic union.
The upper urn of the trophy is supported by a curved pedestal that sits atop a square plinth with angular feet. Accented by lavish silverwork embellishments on the urn, pedestal and base, these handsome elements further elevate the already striking stature of the trophy, while shapely handles seem to crown the piece with distinctive majesty.
A rare find at market, we are so pleased to present a such a lovely and meaningful trophy. Promising to make you feel like a champion with its splendid and storied presence, we are confident this stunning trophy will win its way to your heart to become a treasured addition to your collection.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In good original condition with discreet signs of silver loss as seen in the alternate images. 10.5"W x 14.5"H.
