It's cocktail time! Cocktail time! Make it to the Ritz at cocktail time!
See the gin attack the French vermouth..."
~ Cole Porter, 1922
Even though the first anecdotal written mention of "cocktail" as a mixed alcoholic drink appeared in America in 1806, it was not until Prohibition was lifted in 1933 that the glamorous mid-century era of the cocktail was born. Meanwhile, across the pond, cocktail culture began to flourish a decade earlier. The lively post WWI roaring 20s brought this novel and daring pre-dinner ritual into even the most stately of homes.
In a clever nod to the barnyard rooster - also known as a cockerel - cocktail shakers, cocktail picks and glassware were often decorated with images of roosters. Whether whimsical or classic, the jaunty cockerels happily announced, "It's cocktail time!” Decidedly more subtle, and teeming with sophistication, this exceptional Antique Sterling Silver and Cut Crystal Cocktail Shaker captures all the mystique of that "original" cocktail era.
With a brilliant crystal tapering cylindrical body embellished with elegant cut details designed to catch the light at every turn, gently shaking your favorite cocktail elevates even the most humble spirits. Not to be outdone by the sparkling crystal, the sterling ringed neck and cap gleam with refined elegance.
