Antique Cut Crystal and Silverplate 16" Cocktail Shaker
Antique Cut Crystal and Silverplate 16" Cocktail Shaker
SOLD
Long before there was the Boston, the French or the cobbler, the cocktail shaker had been invented in South America. Fragments of gourd with traces of alcohol in them have been identified as being for the purpose of mixing drinks as early as 7000 BCE. By 1520 CE, explorer Hernando Cortez wrote back to Spain of frothy cacao mixtures prepared in a “golden cylinder-shaped container.”
Intending no offense to Cortez and offering a stylistic nod to Porter, this grandly majestic Antique Cut Crystal and Silverplate Cocktail Shaker is nothing less than a statuesque tribute to THE cocktail. With an expertly cut engraved glass base, this spectacular over-sized vessel is topped with a gleaming silverplate cork-lined strainer and crowning finial cap. Complete with a double pouring spout ensuring maximum showmanship, the cleverly patented cork lid with its graceful tulip-leaf silhouette neatly strains the shaker's precious contents into glass after glass. When not serving, its jaunty, rotund stopper remains securely in place until the next round.
Sure to elevate every celebration and serve as a dramatic focal point on the sideboard, bar or well-appointed cart, the lustrous crystal's elegant details will catch the light as you gently shake (or swish) your favorite cocktail. With a gleaming touch of sophistication and a lasting legacy, this regal shaker stands at the ready to impress as you craft classic creations or experiment with the newest trends in libation chic.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good antique condition. Please note, the silverplate lid and top to the shaker must be held in place while shaking. 16"H x 5" in diameter.
