Antique Art Nouveau Majolica Cachepot

Antique Art Nouveau Majolica Cachepot

$395.00

First appearing in 1851 at the Great Exhibition in London, Majolica ware is richly colored pottery with designs based on plant and animal motifs. By the time it was exhibited at the 1855 Paris World's Fair, it had taken the bourgeoisie of Europe and the Americas by storm. Many late 19th-century majolica designs had rustic motifs with backgrounds of basketry and were decorated with molded flowers, birds, fish and animals - nature inspired for sure.

Case in point, this lovely Art Nouveau French Majolica Cachepot. Found at market in France and coming to us from the early 1900s, this gorgeous cachepot is plentiful in color with a whimsical, earthy aesthetic.

With its unique embossed details of flowers and scrolling branches, it will delight for years to come with its warm earthy tones of pink, light brown and soft blue-green. Decorated with gorgeous colorful blooms on both sides, this antique piece was quite the find. A storied piece for sure, this lovely find will become a beloved addition to any Majolica collection, charming with its rich yet soft color.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good antique condition. 9 1/4" tall x 11" wide at its widest point with a top opening diameter of 9 5/8".
