Recently discovered at a market in the south of France, we are thrilled to present this captivating Antique Olive Wood Souvenir Jewelry Box. A delightful travel memento dating from the early 20th century, this romantic box served as a lasting keepsake from a special visit to San Remo on Italy's Riviera dei Fiori. Along the easternmost shared border with France and a year-round health resort for those with a delicate constitution since 1861, luxury tourism in San Remo further exploded with the opening of its glitzy gambling emporium in 1905 to compete with nearby casinos in France and Monaco.

This romantic jewelry box was lovingly hand-crafted from honey-hued olive wood and lined with blush-colored velveteen to securely hold precious jewelry and trinkets. Hand-lettering in two distinct scripts commemorates both 'San Remo' and 'Marie Guy,' (likely the name of the box's original owner) indicating each was separately applied. The enchanting lid also features a picturesque view of the city's beach coastline and seashore including the opulent Art Nouveau jewel box Hôtel de Paris in the foreground. Surrounding this nostalgic shoreline scene is a colorful bouquet of hand-painted violets and forget-me-nots forming an idyllic floral frame.

Once opened, two small upper compartments swing outward to reveal a larger open compartment below. Complete with its original key and with a chic provenance that recalls the glittering allure of the Riviera, we are confident this storied jewelry box will bring the glamorous mystique of Italy's San Remo to your home.
