Absinthe Sugar Cubes

Absinthe Sugar Cubes

The consumption of absinthe is not only shrouded in mystery and allure, but there are also very specific rituals for preparing a glass of absinthe.  One important step is the addition of sugar to not only sweeten the drink, but also to cut the bitterness.  Because of the high proof of alcohol, however, sugar does not easily dissolve in absinthe.  For this reason, water is slowly dripped from a fountain or carafe over a sugar cube which is sitting on an absinthe spoon over the glass.  This creation of sugar water allows it to mix more easily with the absinthe.

Produced in Europe specifically for use in sweetening absinthe, these paper-wrapped sugar cubes contain 2 cubes each and are made from medium fine beet sugar.

 20 wrapped sets of two sugar cubes. Package measures 10 5/8" x 2 3/8", sugar cubes measure 1 1/4" x 3/8".
