Vintage Sterling China Blue and Green Floral Bowl

Vintage Sterling China Blue and Green Floral Bowl

$6.00

From the corner diner, to the bustling bistro, to your very own kitchen cupboard at home, restaurant china is as popular as ever. This American-made china has stood the test of time for good reason: it's sturdy, unpretentious, classic and true.

Produced by the now-defunct Sterling China Company, these classic bowls are decorated with spring green bands of color around their rim. Within these bands is a cheerful row of stylized flowers in sky blue. Traditionally used in restaurants and diners for serving half a grapefruit, these bowls are also ideal for cereal, yogurt, a small salad or dessert.

Strictly limited quantities and subject to prior sale. Dishwasher, Microwave and Oven Safe. 6.25" in diameter.

Learn More About Our Vintage Restaurant Ware

Found in the shuttered warehouse of a third-generation, family-owned restaurant supply company in Chicago, we are proud to offer a limited collection of unused restaurant ware.  Dating from the 1950s to the 1980s, these nostalgic, American-made pieces are about as honest as dinnerware gets.  Clean, simple shapes decorated with the colors and patterns reminiscent of their era.  And above all, these pieces are of a quality that is near impossible to find today at any price.

Learn More About Sterling China

In 1917, a pottery company named Sterling China was founded in Wellsville, Ohio. The company began making cups, bowls, and mugs then gradually added new items. As the company grew, it continued to add new body colors and decorations. Sterling China installed the first dipping machine for glazes for use by an American producer of restaurant china, replacing the old hand-dipped method.

By World War II, Sterling China was producing a tremendous amount of china. One source stated that Sterling China produced most of the dinnerware used by the United States armed forces during the war. The company's success continued, and by 1949 it was counted in the three top producers of hotel and restaurant china.  Sadly, changes in the industry during the second half of the 20th century forced Sterling China to close its doors in 2003.
