This exquisite pattern is known as "Golden Basket" and features gleaming white porcelain lavishly decorated with a splendid posy of sweet florals spilling from an elegantly gilded basket. Each piece is dressed on its rim with a wide, richly detailed gold encrusted band and is hand-embellished with scattered leafy floral flourishes.

This exceptional and rare set was produced mid-century in Denmark and is complete with 6 Dinner, Luncheon/Salad and Bread Plates, as well as elegant Cream Soup Bowls with Handles and their saucers and Cups and Saucers. In addition, the set includes all the traditional serving pieces: a 16" Oval Platter large enough for a turkey, an 11.5" Oval Platter, a round open Serving Bowl and a lovely Covered Serving Dish with Handles.

The set also includes the following traditional serving pieces: Gravy Boat with Liner: 8.75"x 5"x3.25"H, 16" Oval Serving Platter, 11.5" Oval Serving Platter, Round Serving Bowl: 8.5" x 2.25"H, Covered Serving Dish: 9.25" in length (10.75" including handles) x 6"H. Please note, the covered serving dish has a very small, discreet, underglaze hairline crack that appears to haven been from the factory. It is on the inside of one of the side handles.

Producers of the finest in Danish porcelain, Royal Copenhagen is a company steeped in tradition. This venerable company was founded in 1775 by Danish Queen Juliane Marie and was originally called the Royal Porcelain Factory. Years earlier, after the death of her husband, King Frederick V, Juliane’s stepson ascended the throne. Shortly into his reign, he went insane and the Queen became the head of Denmark and its small empire. She sought to improve Denmark’s economy and founded factories around the country to promote domestic growth and international trade. Royal Copenhagen was one of the first of these factories and the first porcelain production in the country.

Royal Copenhagen first made dinnerware and vases with blue-and-white motifs inspired by Chinese porcelain, which was the rage in aristocratic Europe. Many of these designs, including the beloved "Blue Fluted" pattern are still made today. From the very beginning, Queen Juliane Marie insisted each piece of porcelain be stamped underneath with the Royal Copenhagen logo: a crown above three waves handpainted in cobalt. The crown has changed over time and can be used to date each piece of Royal Copenhagen. The waves represent the three Danish waterways: the Oresund, the Great Belt and the Little Belt.
