Vintage Quimper Plate

Vintage Quimper Plate

$68.00

Quimper pottery (pronounced kem-pair) began in Brittany, France in the early 1700s. Decorated by hand, the pottery's design reflects the strong Breton influence of that region. Perhaps the most famous design that is typical of Quimper pottery is the "petit breton" or "petite bretonne", a naive painting of a Breton man or woman in the traditional costume of Brittany.

Painted entirely by hand, in the famed Henriot factory, this Vintage Quimper Plate has all the charming hallmarks of classic Quimper.  In traditional Quimper style, the plate features a "petit Breton" standing at center next to a colorful floral spray while bands of sunny yellow and bright blue circle the rim.

Founded in 1776, Henriot Quimper is known the world over for its tradition of producing and hand-painting every piece of faience in-house with one artist painting each piece from start to finish. This charming plate is sure to be a beloved addition to any collection.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In good vintage condition with the slightly rough texture and "imperfections" that are often found in vintage, hand-produced Quimper. Circa 1920s. 8"D.
