Antique Enamel Address Plaque - Albert & Catherine 85 Bis

Antique Enamel Address Plaque - Albert & Catherine 85 Bis

$95.00

A lovely antique enamelware address plaque with a unique house name and number, found at market in Paris. Produced in sturdy steel which has been fused with durable porcelain enamel, this handsome plaque would have likely hung on a building or house named "Albert & Catherine" at the address "85 bis".

Taken from the Latin word for "twice", bis is used in France to indicate that a property is split, or that there are two addresses sharing the same house number. So in this case, there would have also been a property with the address 85.

With its bold cobalt blue with white lettering, this distinctive plaque is sure to bring its antique French charms wherever it is displayed.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. Circa 1920. In fair antique condition with the chips, rust and other signs of age and wear that are common with antique enamelware. Measures "6.75 x 12".
