Victorian Burroughs & Mountford Rimmed Soup Bowls - Set of 6
Victorian Burroughs & Mountford Rimmed Soup Bowls - Set of 6
$275.00
An exciting recent discovery at market and rarely seen in multiples, this stunning set of Victorian Rimmed Soup Bowls was produced more than a century ago by the esteemed potters at Burroughs and Mountford of Trenton, New Jersey. Producing tableware and dinner services in a small range of patterns at Trenton's Eagle Pottery from 1879-1895, the firm was known for the high quality and sophistication of their applied decoration. Though the pottery was short-lived, pieces that have survived over the past 125+ years are highly desirable among American collectors.
A lovely example of fine goods being produced in America after the Civil War, the bowls feature a palette of rich cobalt and soft brown with gilt accents upon a background of refined, creamy earthenware. The striking Aesthetic Movement-inspired design, Burroughs & Mountford's Thistle pattern, features a lush arrangement of at center. With a delicate scalloped rim accented in gleaming gilt framing the central scene, the bowls are bottom-stamped with 'Trade Mark' and 'The Potters Wheel Burroughs and Mountford' mark on the underside, one of the first known uses of the term 'trademark' by an American potter.
Sure to be a wonderful addition to your blue and white display or the ultimate gift for an ardent collector, we are confident these generously-sized gleaming bowls will add beauty and refinement to any tablescape, serving you in handsome style for years to come.
