Antique Wedgwood Passionflower Dessert Plates - Set of 6

What began as an ambitious dream of Josiah Wedgwood in 1759, would become one of Britain's most iconic names in fine china.  From the very beginning, Wedgwood did things right.  In 1765 - just 6 years after they began production of their creamware china, they were given permission by Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III, to call their product "Queen's Ware".  Wedgwood could scarcely keep up with the demand as their beautiful china became extremely popular across all of Europe.

From the very early Wedgwood studios in England, we present this set of delightful, hand-decorated Antique Creamware Dessert Plates. Found at market in the north of England, this exceptional set dates from the early 1800s and is as lovely as it is rare. The plates are decorated overall with a delicate geometric pattern in pale green. Atop this background pattern, bold sprays of stylized passionflowers are hand-painted in a palette ranging from deep purple to pale lavender. Leafy green stems and curling tendrils add to the whimsical decoration, while the rim of each plate is trimmed with thin bands of deepest purple.

Bottom-stamped with the esteemed Wedgwood name, these charming plates are certain to create a captivating tablescape and be a beloved addition to your collection.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. Circa 1820. In very good antique condition with only discreet signs of age and use. Plates measures 8.25" in diameter. Handwash Only.
