Pink Milk Glass Cake Stand - 12"

Pink Milk Glass Cake Stand - 12"

$130.00

Lovingly reissued by one of the last remaining glass manufacturers in the United States, we are proud to offer our lovely Roseite Glass Cake Stands.  Pressed from original, vintage molds, these cake stands are made the old-fashioned way:  while the glass is still molten, the plate and the stem are joined to form a single, sturdy piece.  More difficult and costly to produce, they are far superior to the typical method of gluing the plate and stem together.

Handsome when used individually, they are even more dramatic when tiered.  A perfectly simple cake stand in a beautifully fresh color.

Outside diameter of the 12" Cake Stand is 12 5/16".  Overall height is 8 3/4".

Learn More About Roseite

Roseite - the lovely pink milk glass cousin to Jadeite, was manufactured in the United States by several glass companies from the 1940s to  the late 1950s.  Each company produced a slight variant either lighter or darker of the pretty pale pink color.

By far the largest and most well-known producer of Roseite - as well as Jadeite - was the Anchor Hocking Glass Co.   Hocking Glass was founded by Isaac J. Collins, in 1905, near Lancaster, Ohio, and produced, among other things, pressed-glass dinnerware.  After Hocking merged with Anchor Glass in 1937 and formed the Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation, they began to manufacture glass ovenware that could endure high temperatures. Their wildly successful line of ovenproof glass, called Fire-King, debuted in 1942 and was made for 30 years. Offered in a variety colors, Fire-King named their opaque pink color Roseite.

Why Is Pink Milk Glass More Expensive?

To create the dreamy shade of pink milk glass, a rare earth element called Erbium, was added to the molten glass. To perfectly capture that authentic, delicate shade of pink, Erbium is also used in the production of this cake stand. It is the addition of rare erbium that adds to the production costs and makes these beautiful pink milk glass pieces a bit more dear than their Jadeite counterparts.
