The Victorian era, named after England's Queen Victoria, lasted from the 1830's to the turn of the 20th century and was an era of abundance and beauty. A lovely example of the lush aesthetic of the Victorians is this exceptional Fruit and Dessert Knife and Fork Set produced in England by the long-shuttered London silversmith, Robert Stebbings. 

The elegant handles are in lustrous mother-of-pearl with ornate ferrules and silverplated blades and tines that are exquisitely engraved with delicate fern frond embellishments. Stored in a wooden Walker & Hall presentation chest with sumptuous pale blue tufted silk and peacock blue velvet lining, this superb 24-piece set is truly one-of-a-kind. As shown in the alternate images, the lid of the presentation chest has warped over the past century and no longer fully closes.

Originally intended for use with a fruit or dessert course, this magnificent set is also ideal for appetizers, a cheese course, salads, a light lunch, even breakfast - any time the proportions of a dinner knife and fork are too large for the course or meal being served.  We are certain it will share its delicate charms in any tablescape and be a gracious touchstone from a bygone era.
