"When its cocktail time 'twill be so nice
Just to know you'll not have to phone for ice."
~ Cole Porter, Silk Stockings (1955)
From the antique silver markets of England, we're thrilled to present this magnificent Antique Silverplate Ice Bucket with Lid. The generously sized bucket is designed with all the opulent cues of the Victorian era. Lush garlands of hand-engraved ivy festoon the body of the bucket and ring the top border in relief capturing the timeless splendor of an English country manor home. On the front of the bucket, a family armorial crest of an arm clad in armor rising up from a crown, bent at the elbow and clutching a sword signifies leadership, power, protection, authority, honor and courage. On the opposite side of the bespoke bucket is a lovely, hand-engraved letter "W" intertwined within an ornate buckle to indicate the family's last name.
The bucket stands confidently on four gleaming ball feet that are echoed in the ball finial at the top of the hinged lid. Lavishly ornate side handles allow the bucket to be carried with ease from the kitchen to the bar, table or buffet.
This majestic bucket was skillfully produced by the renowned Martin, Hall & Co. silversmiths of Sheffield in the late 1800s. With its ball feet preventing condensation from spoiling a wood tabletop or bar and its secure lid keep the ice icy, this breathtaking bucket will be the crowning touch for the well-appointed bar and for the host or hostess who does not want to have to phone for ice!
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good restored antique condition. Measures 8.5"H x 8.5"D including side handles.
