Omnia Omnibus Ubique - All Things for All People, Everywhere.

Harrods. It is much more than a department store or a magnificent building in the exclusive borough of Knightsbridge. Harrods is a British institution, rich in history and romanticism.

It all began in 1824 when the 25 year old Charles Henry Harrod began a "draper, mercer and haberdasher" business in central London. By 1849, Mr. Harrod had moved his growing business to its current Knightsbridge location - which at the time was a small village just outside London. Occupying only a single room, employing two assistants and a messenger boy, Mr. Harrod focused on the grocery business, specializing in teas.  In the years that followed, Harrod's son Charles Digby Harrod built the business into a thriving retail operation. Harrods rapidly expanded, selling medicines, perfumes, stationery, along with fruit and vegetables. By 1880, Harrods had acquired the adjoining buildings, and employed one hundred people.

The store's booming fortunes were reversed in early December 1883, when fire swept through the building, burning it to the ground. Remarkably, in view of this disaster, Charles Harrod fulfilled all of his commitments to his customers to make Christmas deliveries that year - and made a record profit in the process. As quickly as possible, a new building was built on the same site, and soon Harrods extended credit for the first time to its best customers, among them being Oscar Wilde, Charlie Chaplin, Noel Coward, Gertrude Lawrence, Laurence Olivier, Vivien Leigh, Sigmund Freud, A.A. Milne and many members of the British Royal Family.  Harrods - the beautiful store filled with fabulous goods and serving a well-heeled clientele was definitely "on the map".

Recognized for its celebrity-endorsed sales, its magnificent food hall and its signature green bags, Harrods is one of the world's largest and most famous department stores. With over a million square feet of space, Harrods sells luxury and everyday items across seven floors and 330 departments. Harrods once boasted that "anything you could think of was for sale". While that may not be exactly true, it is likely the only place where one can purchase historic 18th-century dinner plates, exquisite caviar and a giant teddy bear. Indeed, there is no place in the world quite like Harrods.

These elegant sterling silver teaspoons and tongs from Harrods are certain to be a prized addition to your collection of serving pieces or a thoroughly charming gift for the refined tea lover in your life!

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good vintage condition. Box measures 7.75"W x 6"L x 1"H, teaspoons measure 4.25" long and tongs measure 3.25" x 1.25"
