First appearing in 1851 at the Great Exhibition in London, majolica ware is richly colored pottery with designs based on plant and animal motifs. By the time it was exhibited at the 1855 Paris World's Fair, it had taken both Europe and the Americas by storm with the bourgeoisie on both sides of the Atlantic falling in love with these colorful, nature inspired ceramics. The love affair with majolica continues even today and with this gorgeous Vintage St. Clément Asparagus Platter it's easy to see why!
Found at market in France and dating from the early 1900s from the famed potters of Saint Clément, we are thrilled to have found this charming serving piece with its graceful stems of sweet bleeding heart flowers. With a gorgeous, earthy aesthetic and lush details depicting asparagus in the center, the platter is further enhanced by gracefully decorated handles at either end for ease in transport to the table.
Entirely hand-painted with the colorful glazes that have made Saint Clément so beloved, dreamy hues of dusty violet and leafy green along with the deep pink of the bleeding heart flowers are artfully scattered across the dimensional surface. This special dish with its cheerful aesthetic is sure to make a lovely presentation, serving every tender asparagus spear in elegant style.
