souvenir noun \sü-və-nir\ : something that serves as a reminder.
from the French,(se) souvenir to remember.

Found at market outside of Paris, a charming Antique Matchstick Holder produced in the early 20th-century as a souvenir of the French seaside town of Villers-sur-Mer. Located on the coast of the English channel in the Normandy region of northern France, Villers-sur-Mer has long been a holiday destination for the well-heeled French vacationer. The town is one of several villages, including Deauville, that make up the "Côte Fleuri" - the "Flowery Coast" of Normandy.

In the 19th century, the wealthy would build lavish vacation villas along the coastline, and the match holder is decorated with an illustration of several villas and the casino in the town of Villers-sur-Mer. Crafted of a honey-stained blonde wood, the holder has a charming scalloped edge and is designed to hang on the wall.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good antique condition. Measures 4.75"H x 2.5"W x 1.125"D. Matches not included.
