Vintage French Longwy Cake Plate

Vintage French Longwy Cake Plate

A charming find for sure, we are delighted to offer this lovely Vintage French Cake Plate.

The Longwy pottery was established towards the end of the 17th century in a Carmelite convent in northeastern France near the point where France, Luxembourg and Belgium meet. Longwy developed a technique of decorating earthenware with enamel in the style of cloisonné. This style, which they called Emaux de Longwy, continued as their main output and the style by which Longwy wares are recognized.

Production has continued since, interrupted only by the two World Wars, and while the styles have changed with the times the general appearance of the pieces has remained unmistakable.

In Longwy's "Vieux Strasbourg" pattern of colorful florals, this delightful cake plate is just the right size for serving little cakes or sweets. The hand-painted details and storied charms of this find will make it a beloved addition to your collection.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In good vintage condition. Circa 1930. 8 7/8" x 2". 6" cake.
