Antique Majolica Fish Dish

Antique Majolica Fish Dish

$125.00

First appearing in 1851 at the Great Exhibition in London, Majolica ware is richly colored pottery with designs based on plant and animal motifs. By the time it was exhibited at the 1855 Paris World's Fair, it had taken the bourgeoisie of Europe and the Americas by storm. Many late 19th-century majolica designs had rustic motifs with backgrounds of basketry and were decorated with molded flowers, birds, fish and animals - nature inspired for sure.

Case in point, this exceptional Antique Majolica Dish found at market in England. Dating from the late 1800s, this is a gorgeous piece to be sure. Whether for a sauce to accompany your fish dinner or perhaps course sea salt, the dish is designed with a freshly caught fish lying below cattails and a lily pad. Handpainted with colorful and naturalistic details, this magical dish will delight for generations to come as a wonderful part of your collection.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. Measures 6" x 3.5" x 3". In very good antique condition with two small discreet chips on the back as shown in the alternate images.
