Found at market outside of Paris, we are so pleased to present this wonderful Souvenir Jewelry Box from the fortified, Gallo-Roman town of Langres in the northeast of France. Lovingly made with thick, beveled glass in a unique, triangular shape, its gilt metal frame is embellished with decorative flourishes. The interior of the box is lined in a tufted gray-blue fabric intended to safely hold the most precious, favored pieces of jewelry.
The glass lid of the box is adorned with a beautifully hand-colored image of the town's imposing Cathedral Saint-Mammes de Langres located in the historic, walled center of the town. Built in the second half of the 12th century, the cathedral is a French national monument and is distinguished by its mix of both Roman and Gothic architectural styles, as well as its facade that was rebuilt in the 18th century in the classical style.
Exquisite and oh-so rare, this lovely find will share the ancient magic of Langres and lovingly hold your most treasured jewelry in timeless French fashion.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. Circa 1900. In good antique condition with gentle signs of age especially to the fabric lining as shown in the alternate images. 2.75"H x 3" x 3".
