Antique Bronze Auguste Caïn "Coq Sur Un Panier" Sculpture

Antique Bronze Auguste Caïn "Coq Sur Un Panier" Sculpture

$395.00

Found on our most recent buying trip to France, we are pleased to offer a rare piece of art by one of France's noted sculptures of the 19th century.

A gallant rooster, proudly crowing, stands defiant atop a woven farmyard basket. With carrots on the ground, a sign affixed to the front of the basket, bears the sculpture's signature.

By the French sculptor Auguste Caïn (1821-1894), the sculpture is depicted on page 167 of Pierre Kjellberg's book, "Bronzes of the 19th century".

Caïn was a known "animalier"; he made bronze sculptures of both wild and domesticated animals in different sizes. This is an example known as an "animalier bronzes" - a smaller-scale work that was extremely popular in France during the 19th century. Monumental works of his can be viewed in Paris at both the Tuileries and Luxembourg Gardens and in the courtyard of the Louvre Museum.

Sure to take pride of place in your home, this beautiful sculpture is a handsome treasure from the Belle Epoque of Paris.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In excellent antique condition. Measures 6 3/4"H x 3"W
