Vintage Wedgwood Paignton Pattern Dinner Plates- Set of 10

What began as an ambitious dream of Josiah Wedgwood in 1759, would become one of Britain's most iconic names in fine china. From the very beginning, Wedgwood did things right. In 1765 - just 6 years after they began production of their creamware china, they were given permission by Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III, to call their product "Queen's Ware". Wedgwood could scarcely keep up with the demand as their beautiful china became extremely popular across all of Europe.
From the Wedgwood studios in England, we were thrilled to discover this lovely set of 10 Vintage Paignton Dinner Plates with their sumptuously embossed scrolls and dimensional rim in the stately Patrician line. First introduced in 1927, Wedgwood also patented proprietary aspects of the Patrician design in the United States as evidenced by the rear marking 'U.S.A. DES. PATENT 74009.'
The pattern features a central medallion with a stylized view of Paignton Bay, located on the coast of Devon in southwestern England. Known for its picturesque sandy beaches and stunning views of the English Channel, the artists at Wedgwood chose to illustrate a charming scene featuring sailboats on the bay with the hills and cliffs of the town in the background. While this idyllic rendering captures the beauty and tranquility of this coastal town, it also reflects the aspirational power of seascapes and their popularity as a motif in decorative arts during the early 20th century.
With a detailed edge design and idyllic landscape depicted in rich raspberry, these enchanting plates promise to set a pretty table and are equally captivating on display.
