Vintage New Orleans Mignon Faget Oyster Plate

Oysters have been considered a lavish and special offering to dinner guests for centuries, and highly decorative plates for serving this delicacy have been sought since the late 1800s. Discovered this spring during a visit to New Orleans, these rustic Vintage Oyster Plates from Mignon Faget are truly one of kind. Individually fashioned with porcelain wells in the shape of oyster shells, the effect from a distance is of a plate always brimming with a fresh half dozen! 

Each shell-shaped cast well is affixed to the sturdy underplate and has been hand embellished to create the illusion of each oyster's muscle scar, the point at which an oyster attaches to its shell. Brushed along the edges in a soft oyster-tinged  these oyster plates have a total of 7 wells. The outer 6 wells are intended for oysters and the center well is intended for a condiment or sauce. Designed by noted New Orleans jewelry and home decor designer, Mignon Faget, who draws great inspiration from nature as well as the city she calls home, this elegant serving plate is sure to make a wonderfully unexpected addition to your dining collection.
