Vintage Sliver Slipper Club Silverplate Coffeepot

By the 1920s, London had fallen headlong under the spell of jazz, dancing, and after-hours revelry—and few figures embodied that glittering world more completely than Kate Meyrick. An Irish-born nightclub proprietor who became known as the “Queen of the Night Clubs,” Meyrick presided over a dazzling succession of London establishments that attracted aristocrats, actors, writers, musicians, and the fashionable Bright Young Things of the Jazz Age. Though frequently raided for violating Britain’s strict licensing laws, her clubs only seemed to grow more legendary with each scandal, becoming symbols of London’s rebellious and exuberant nightlife between the wars.

Among her most glamorous ventures was the Silver Slipper Club on Regent Street, opened in 1927. Lavishly modern and theatrical, the club became famous for its illuminated glass dance floor, cabaret performances, elegant late-night suppers, and glittering clientele. Tallulah Bankhead, Jack Buchanan, Norman Hartnell, Lady Louis Mountbatten, and Prince Nicholas of Romania were all associated with the club’s lively social scene, while the wider circle surrounding Meyrick’s establishments included figures such as Evelyn Waugh and the famously restless Bright Young Things who came to define the era. One can easily imagine the Silver Slipper crowded deep into the night with dancers, champagne glasses, cigarette smoke, and the electric glamour of Jazz Age London unfolding beneath the glow of Regent Street.

This handsome silverplate coffeepot by the makers at James Dixon & Sons, and retailed by Harrods, is a fascinating piece of history, certain to delight as much now as it did in service at the intriguing Silver Slipper Club.
