The Saint Clément pottery was founded in 1758 in the village of the same name, located in the Lorraine region of northeast France. Producing classic French faïence, the firm became known for its majolica pitchers in the form of animals. Beginning in the 1920s production also consisted of tableware and household items of fine earthenware, in addition to their whimsical animal pitchers.
Crafted in the famed St. Clément works, this Vintage French Duck Pitcher is marked 'J. claude Marin' and 'Claudine Martin 1963' on the creamy underside. Beautifully hand-glazed with rich colors, it is an exceptional pitcher from one of France's most historic potters.

This delightful ceramic pitcher was made by the famed French faience pottery factory of St. Clément. Founded in 1758 by Jacques Chambrette in the Lorraine region of France, St. Clément majolica was a favorite of Marie-Antoinette and gained a well-deserved worldwide reputation for beautiful wares. It has been said that imitation is the highest form of flattery and the works of St. Clément have often been copied by other porcelain makers.
