Vintage (Mostly!) European Glass Ashtrays - Prices Vary

It was probably inevitable, but while smoking indoors has become "unacceptable and unwelcome", the smoking accessories from the 1950s and 60s are now enjoying another round on the coffee table. Here at POSH, we've never been fans of smoking, but we've always been fans of ashtrays. We find them to be decorative objects that add their own charm and personality to a room. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, we find them handy for any number of sustainable uses, from a place to throw your keys and loose change at the end of the day, to holders of jewelry, coasters for candles, dishes for paper clips, olive pits, jelly beans, dipping sauces.

At the top of our favorites list, have always been ashtrays and pin trays that hail from a specific place. We certainly wouldn't have condoned all the pilfering from swanky clubs and luxury hotels that must have been happening mid-century, but since bespoke ashtrays are no longer being produced, we're thankful these curious travel mementoes are still here to tell their stories. 

Found at markets across Europe, we are happy to present this eclectic collection of decorative glass ashtrays produced exclusively for establishments as varied as the luxurious Hotel Sacher in Vienna, the Waldorf Astoria in New York and the head office in Paris of the now defunct French airline, Union Aéromaritime de Transport (UAT) that once operated flights between Europe and Africa.
