Antique Etched Cranberry Box

One of this autumn's most exquisite arrivals, this magnificent Antique Etched Cranberry Glass Box makes a grand impression in any setting. Recently arrived just in time for the holidays, its sylvan motif has been created through etching through to the clear base layer of antique glass. The lovely scene featured on the lower portion of the box as well as the magnificent lid is visible through a richly-hued ruby tone into which a series of wilderness vignettes has been engraved.

Within the scenes, stags and hounds appear suspended in movement among formidable trees, as light captures the dimension of each exquisite, hand-cut detail. Created with expert skill in a technique known as "cut to clear," in which the artist etched away portions of the external layer of colored glass to create a pattern, the artisanship of this handsome box is outstanding.

The lovely lid lifts gracefully from its brass edged trim and hinges. On the box's handsome bottom, a grape leaf and vine detail covers the surface and is visible from both the interior and the underside of the box. An etched geometric design rims the lid, harmonizing with the lower scenes to create a grand impression. With its deep, saturated jewel-toned color and exquisite hand-wrought details, this breathtaking box showcases a charming pastoral aesthetic and timeless elegance that will never fail to impress and delight.
