This set of dessert plates by E. Hughes & Co. of Staffordshire reflects the lively spirit of early 20th-century English ceramics. Set against a clean white ground, each plate is encircled by a vivid citron-yellow band framing a garland of stylized blossoms in bold coral and green, outlined in fine black for definition.

The design strikes a lovely balance—structured yet playful—with a repeating floral motif that feels almost jewel-like in its precision. It nods to the transition from late Victorian ornament toward the more streamlined sensibilities of the early 20th century.
