Found at market in France, we are so pleased to present this magnificent Antique Fontainebleau Jewelry Box. With thick, beveled glass forming the sides and lid, the box is framed in gilt metal and stands confidently on its decorative feet. The interior of the box is lined in faded red silk, and the entire piece captures the romance and refinement of Belle Époque France.
The box was produced in the late 1800s as a souvenir from the famed Fontainebleau castle, one of the most beautifully decorated and furnished palaces in all of France. It is one of the largest French royal chateaux and was the residence of French monarchs for 7 centuries, from Louis VII through Napoleon III. The interiors of the palace are lavish examples of the French Renaissance style, with the opulence and splendor demanded by the emperors and Kings of France.
