Located a stone's throw from 221B Baker Street, Sherlock Holmes' famous address, the Somerset Hotel was established in 1885, just two years before Holmes met Dr. John Watson in their first adventure, the 1887 novel A Study in Scarlet.
The fictional detective's flat is in Marylebone, the Central London borough that was also home to Lord Byron, Charles Dickens, and Paul McCartney (who wrote "Yesterday" while living at 57 Wimpole Street).
